To combat implant-associated infections in modern medicine, there is a need for novel materials wich effectively inhibit bacterial biofilm formation. The aim of the project was to analyze the antiadhesive mechanism to repel bacterial biofilms of liquid-infused structured titanium surfaces. For this purpose, bacterial adhesion forces were measured and gene expression patterns of Streptococcus oralis biofilms on liquid-infused titanium and control surfaces were compared. To do so, the genome of Streptococcus oralis strain ATCC® 9811 was sequenced to be used for transcriptom alignment.
