VPRS 12197 Plans and Drawings : Royal Visit 1934 HRH Duke of Gloucester

This series consists of various plans and drawings created in the course of preparations for the Royal Visit of 1934. HRH Prince Henry Duke of Gloucester came to Australia in late 1934, and to Victoria in time for the Centenary Celebrations (of pastoral settlement of the Port Phillip District, beginning with the Hentys settlement at Portland Bay on 19 November 1834).It would appear that the 2 plans of metropolitan Melbourne in Unit 1 were created in preparation for the Princes visit to the Laverton airfield. Two sites, one at Laverton and one at Derrimut, are coloured in on the plan. Within these coloured areas, the plots of ly owned land and the owners of which are indicated. The distance to Melbourne by road from each site is indicated. abattoirs are marked on the map in red.As well as maps and plans showing the route to be travelled by the Duke through various towns, this series also contains plans and artwork for the proposed decorations and street stands to be constructed for the Princes visit to Melbourne.
