For a series of countries in the last few years over-all economic aggregates
of the industrialization period for the first half of the 20th century
have been re-calculated.
Frequently these revised data led to new assessment of the economic course and
long-term economic growth.
For this in Germany the works of Walter G. Hoffmann as well as
the international comparative overviews of Mitchel and Maddison were
authoritative.
These time series were however the starting points for criticism
since Hoffmann´s methodological approach was disputed.
Thus the investigation of Ritschl and Spoerer attempts to construct
an alternative.
The result is a revision of the time series of Hoffmann.
The revision encompasses the years 1901 to 1949 and thus ajoins the
revised results for the national economy over-all calculation
of the Federal Republic of Germany of 1950 to 1990
presented by the Federal Bureau of the Census.
These data are augmented with time series for the GDR until 1995.
