Description of Hypoviridae adapted from ICTVdb Virion Properties No true viral particles are associate with this virus; vesicles devoid of any detectable viral structural proteins but containing viral nucleic acid can be isolated from infected tissue; pleomorphic vesicles surrounded by rough endoplasmatic reticulum occur in infected tissue, but they do not contain typical viral structures. Morphology Vesicles containing viral matter; are poorly characterized and consist of a nucleoprotein complex. Virus capsid is found in membranous vesicles. Virions measure 50-80 nm in diameter. Physicochemical and Physical Properties Virions have a buoyant density in CsCl of 1.27-1.3 g cm-3. Nucleic Acid The genome is not segmented and contains a single molecule of linear double-stranded RNA. The complete genome is 10000-13000 nucleotides long. The 3'-terminus has short a poly (A) tract (of 20-30 nucleotides at the coding strand). Proteins The viral genome encodes non-structural proteins.
