Thrips tabaci (onion thrips) genome assembly

Onion thrips, Thrips tabaci Lindeman (Thysanoptera: Thripidae), is one of the most serious insect pests of a wide range of crops. T. tabaci has developed resistance to many insecticides such as pyrethroids, neonicotinoids, and spinosyns in Japan. We constructed a genome assembly of Thrips tabaci to clarify the mechanism of the insecticide resistance (target-site insensitivity, enhanced metabolism by detoxification enzymes such as P450, etc.). The genome assembly would also be useful for analyzing the population genetic structure and gene flow among T. tabaci populations of two reproductive forms: thelytoky and arrhenotoky.
