China (2005): HIV/AIDS TRaC Study Examining Condom Use among Female Sex Workers in Mengzi. First Round.

This survey among female sex workers (FSW) aimed to: 1) identify and describe segments of FSW in terms of consistent condom use with all partners, consistent condom use with commercial partners, and condom use with regular partners; 2) gain an understanding of knowledge, attitudes, and HIV/AIDS risk behavior among FSW; 3) monitor key factors over time; 4) use study data to design a social marketing and behavior change communication campaign for HIV/AIDS risk reduction among FSW.Cluster sampling of hotspots was used to collect data among 360 FSW in Mengzi. The study questionnaire collected data on FSWs' opportunity, ability and motivation to consistently use condoms with sexual partners. Special attention was paid to factors identified as important in previous surveys among FSW, such as locus of control, condom brand appeal, and attitudes and beliefs related to condom use.
