Investigating the Impact of Nursing Workload, Complexity, and Intensity in Intensive Care on Patient Outcomes

This thesis examines how nursing workload and workforce impacts on the delivery of specialised ICU care. It analyses the association between specialist-trained critical care nurses and patient outcomes. The findings conclude that technologically advanced intensive care therapies create demands that current workload and workforce tools do not fully capture. The work informs staffing models and training priorities, supporting safer ICU care and improving patient-focused outcomes.
