This dataset contains the CT3-G equivalent source dipole (ESD) inversion results used to plot the ESD result panels. Files:1. ESD_inversion_results.mat Compact MATLAB dataset containing the final ESD inversion result dipoles and metadata. 2. plot_ESD_inversion_results.m MATLAB script for plotting the ESD inversion results. How to run:Place ESD_inversion_results.mat and plot_ESD_inversion_results.m in the same folder, then run in MATLAB: plot_ESD_inversion_results The script outputs: ESD_inversion_results_points.png ESD_inversion_results_points.fig Dataset contents:The MATLAB file contains three variables: 1. T A table containing all ESD inversion result dipoles. Key columns: - sourceIndex: dipole index - outsideStudyAreaFlag: 0 for retained dipoles inside the study area; 1 for buffer dipoles around the study area - dipoleGroup: retained or buffer - lon_degE, lat_degN: source dipole location - magnetization_A_per_m: magnetization strength - paleopoleLat_degN, paleopoleLon_degE: paleopole location - moment_Am2, Mx_Am2, My_Am2, Mz_Am2: dipole moment magnitude and Cartesian components - Mr_Am2, Mtheta_Am2, Mphi_Am2: local spherical moment components - crustalThickness_km, sourceDepth_km, elevation_km: source geometry information - inclination_deg, declination_deg: magnetization direction 2. datasetInfo Metadata describing the ESD center, study area, inversion filters, source counts, and residual RMS. 3. metadata A simple table version of the main metadata fields. Notes:The dataset contains 271 total ESD result dipoles: 127 retained dipoles and 144 buffer dipoles. The plotting script defaults to showing only the retained dipoles, matching the figure used in the manuscript. To inspect all dipoles, including the buffer dipoles, set: plotBufferDipoles = true in plot_ESD_inversion_results.m. Center convention:The actual ESD source array and study-area center are 36.5 deg E, 2.2 deg S, matching the CT3-G center. In the main text, this location is rounded to integer degrees as 37 deg E, 2 deg S. Dependencies:The plotting script only requires MATLAB and ESD_inversion_results.mat in the same folder. It does not require the raw MAVEN observations, MOLA topography, crustal-thickness grids, external toolboxes, or external colormap files.
