Social and Cultural Determinants of the Conduct of Foreign Workers in the Federal Republic of Germany (Pretest: Germans and Foreigners)

Life and job situation of the German population and foreign workers in
a Cologne part of town (pretest survey).

Topics: The current study served as a pretest for the primary
investigations described in ZA Study Nos. 1043 and 1044 (see
description there). The major topics of these investigations are thus
largely identical. Besides the methodological screening of the research
instruments the pretest additionally helped in the decision about the
use of survey procedure (written or oral survey). For this reason the
pretest questionnaire was designed such that it could be used both for
written as well as for oral interviews.

Demography: age; sex; marital status; number of children; religious
denomination; school education; vocational training; occupation;
income; income of spouse; city size; occupation of spouse; job
opportunities in country of origin; nationality and place of residence
of spouse; children in Germany and their training; educational level
sought.
