This project aims to describe community assembly processes in aquatic microbes under contrasting dispersal events (dispersal limitation and homogenizing dispersal) under identical environmental conditions. By conducting a semi-continuous culture experiment with lake bacteria, we experimentally investigate compositional and functional changes in 20 parallel consortia after establishment under dispersal-limitation conditions during several semi-continuous cultivation cycles. Subsequently, we analyze the community structure in parallel consortia that develop after the coalescence (homogenizing dispersal) of the original communities.
