Test MKH02: Dynamic Centrifuge Tests of Structures on Soft Clay Reinforced by Soil-Cement Grids

In test MKH02, the seismic behavior of a Single Degree of Freedom (SDOF) model built upon the soft clay reinforced with soil-cement grid was investigated.The area replacement ratio of the reinforced section was Ar = 24%. The MKH02 test was comprised of 12 shakes, at a centrifugal acceleration of 57g. The model were subjected first to a series of small to medium ground motions followed by some big shaking events. Some small shakings were applied to investigate the performance of the soil-cement panels after big shaking if any crack occurs and underlying mechanism on relationship between the soil-cement panels and structure. The soil profile consisted of six preconsolidated layers of coarse kaolinite clay overlaid on a saturated coarse sand layer for drainage purpose. A thin layer of wet sand was placed on the surface to prevent drying the clay surface during the spinning. The sand layers used in these tests were dry pluviated into the container with drop height and rate controlled to achieve the desired relative density profiles. The clay layer was consolidated into six lifts of 6-8 cm to achieve a final model scale depth of 41 cm.
