Manangatang Landcare Community - Combating Soil Salinity

This project will manage sites affected by soil salinity - a major environmental issue in the Manangatang region. The Managatang Landcare Group and community volunteers will work together, using local expertise, to plant Old Man Saltbush on two project sites and will exclude stock and pest animals from them through fencing. Landholders will enter into long-term management plans for the sites and undertake monitoring pre and post project. The salt bush plantings will reduce salinity, stabilise erosive soils, create native habitat, improve biodiversity and enhance the local landscape.
