We generated a chromosome-level genome assembly of the spruce bark beetle (Ips typographus), improving upon the previous assembly (GCA_016097725.1). Using long-read sequencing, whole-genome sequencing of two two-generation families, and cytogenetic karyotyping, we reconstructed a high-density linkage map to anchor contigs, correct misassemblies, refine inversion size estimates, identify new putative inversions, and update repeat content. The new assembly organizes 140 contigs (213 Mb, ~90% of the genome) into 16 linkage groups corresponding to the haploid chromosome number, with 54 unplaced contigs (12 Mb, 5%) and 83 small contigs (12 Mb, 5%) excluded. This chromosome-level reference provides a valuable resource for studies of genome structure, chromosomal inversions, and evolutionary genomics of I. typographus.
