Hydrogen Peroxide applied to funil reservoir water

Cyanobacterial blooms compromise water quality worldwide. Their prevention requires the limitation of nutrient inputs in water bodies. However, once established, other strategies are necessary to control the growth of cyanobacteria, such as oxidation processes mediated by H2O2. Cyanobacteria are considered more susceptible than green algae to this treatment, but few studies assessed the recovery of the planktonic community after H2O2 exposure. Here, we tested the effect of a single addition of H2O2 in different concentrations (1, 10 and 100 mg L-1) on a natural phytoplankton and bacterioplankton community from a freshwater eutrophic reservoir, maintained in laboratory conditions, using fluorimetric and DNA sequencing approaches (16S rRNA by Illumina MiSeq).
