An interspecific cross of almond and peach results in F1 plants exhibiting regular meiosis and full fertility (Kester and Asay, 1975). In light of the high synteny observed between potato and tomato as well as between sorghum and maize, it was thought that study of the almond-peach hybrid might provide Prunus-wide insights. A mapping population of 75 F2 seedlings grafted onto Prunus dulcis cv Garrigues was developed from the almond x peach interspecific cross 'Texas' x 'Earlygold'. The plants were genotyped with isozymes and RFLP markers. The population was increased to 82 individuals and the plants were genotyped with SSR markers.
