Blood mtDNA Targeted Sequencing Data from the REGARDS Study on Cognitive Performance in Late Midlife

This dataset contains derived mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) heteroplasmy measures from blood cells of participants in the REGARDS Study, a U.S. cohort of adults aged ≥45 years. DNA was extracted from packed cells collected at baseline (2003–2007). The data were generated from high-depth sequencing of the full mtDNA genome (~5800× median coverage), but only processed heteroplasmy measures are included. The dataset comprises two components: (1) region-wise measures of total heteroplasmy burden, and (2) gene-level measures with heteroplasmy dichotomized by mitochondrial genes. These data support analyses of the relationship between mtDNA heteroplasmy and cognitive performance in late midlife.
