The Newfoundland museum (The Rooms) fish collection (OBIS Canada)

Formerly known as the Newfoundland Museum, the Rooms has the mandate to collect, catalogue, conserve, preserve, study and exhibit historic resources and to enlighten and educate the people respecting historic resources.

The Rooms unites the Provincial Archives, Art Gallery and Museum for the province of Newfoundland, Canada. The Rooms is a portal to the many stories Newfoundland has to tell. The Rooms is the place where it all comes together - history, heritage and artistic expression.

The Rooms museum contains several marine collections. This current dataset contains a very small subset of the museum's ichthyology collection. The OBIS dataset contains records associated with silverside specimens (Menidia menidia)sent to the Newfoundland Museum. These samples were originally collected as part of a project with the objective to determine the distributional ranges and phylogeographic origins of several species in coastal Newfoundland waters.
