16S rRNA gene sequencing of fecal microbiota in cirrhotic patients with and without portal vein thrombosis

This project investigates the gut microbiota composition in patients with liver cirrhosis, comparing those with and without portal vein thrombosis (PVT), alongside healthy controls. Fecal samples were collected from 88 individuals: 14 cirrhotic patients with PVT, 67 cirrhotic patients without PVT, and 7 healthy controls. The V1-V2 region of the 16S rRNA gene was amplified and subjected to high-throughput sequencing using the Illumina MiSeq platform. The aim is to explore microbiome alterations associated with thrombotic complications in cirrhosis.
