Лексические особенности гватемальского национального варианта современного испанского языка

The article highlights the unique lexical characteristics of Guatemalan Spanish. Despite Spanish being widespread in Latin America, the Guatemalan variant is under-researched. The article discusses the historical spread of Spanish in Guatemala since the 16th century, the influence of indigenous languages like Nahuatl, and the development of a distinct Guatemalan lexicon. It categorizes the vocabulary into panhispanisms, hispanoamericanisms, regionalisms, and localisms, emphasizing the semantic, phonetic, and grammatical differences. The work also explores the integration of indigenous terms and the influence of English on Guatemalan slang, underlining the dynamic nature of the language variant.
