The feature classification cross-walk was created during the compilation of CHGIS (ca 2002) as a starting point to understand how semantic interoperability of historical feature types could be related from unrelated sources in Chinese and Japanese. Subsequently lists of Uighur and Mongol geographic feature types were added (2003).
