For each diagnosis and symptom factor, the number of loci requiring additional permutations after each stage of our adaptive procedure, given for both the Min P and truncated-product methods. For an observed test-statistic to be considered significant at a particular stage of permutation, there may be no greater than 10 simulated null statistics which are more extreme than the observed. For each gene-based test, the number of permutations performed at each stage is displayed parenthetically (100, 1,000, 10,000, and 100,000).
