"Lake Nyasa, Laws of Livingstonia" Photograph taken from the shores of Lake Nyasa or Lake Malawi. The picture has been taken close to sun set or sun rise. Lake Nyasa is located between Malawi, Tanzania and Mozambique.; This belongs to a series of Church of Scotland Foreign Missions Committee lantern slides relating to Dr Robert Laws (1851-1934) the Scottish Missionary. In 1875, inspired by David Livingstone (1813-1873), Laws travelled to Malawi and was involved in the foundation of the mission station of Livingstonia on the shores of Lake Nyasa. During the succeeding 50 years he also established a network of hundreds of schools. In 1908 Laws was elected moderator of the General Assembly of the United Free Church of Scotland.
