Sugarcane has great economic importance and has been expanding mainly to Cerrado regions in central-west Brazil. To understand the influence of the cultivation and management of sugarcane on the chemical, physical and biological properties of soil in Cerrado regions, we studied an area with unburnt sugarcane, a sugarcane area that had been burnt before the harvest and an area of native Cerrado vegetation in the state of Goi*s (Brazil).
