树木年轮因其分布广泛、定年准确、分辨率高、复本量大等优点被用于历史气候重建。该数据包括了原始以及校准的树木年轮中汞浓度历史序列。本数据采集中国西北地区祁连山青海云杉 (Picea crassifolia Kom.) 树木年轮样品,通过树木年轮学的方法进行树轮的定年工作,然后用直接测汞仪进行汞浓度的测量。由于树木个体因素造成的各树木年轮平均汞浓度之间存在差异(即特异性偏差),但其原因目前还不得而知。利用双全重均值求得区域的平均汞浓度序列,其特异性偏差为原始浓度序列的平均值和平均浓度序列均值的差值。校准的汞浓度为原始汞浓度和特异性偏差之间差值。原始的汞浓度序列为其真值,而校准后的序列能更好的反映其区域的汞浓度变化。该数据主要用于汞污染历史的重建以及跨境污染物传输路径的研究。

Tree rings have been widely applied in historical climate reconstruction due to their advantages including wide distribution, accurate dating, high resolution, and large sample replicates. This dataset contains both raw and calibrated historical mercury concentration sequences derived from tree rings. Tree ring samples were collected from Picea crassifolia Kom. in the Qilian Mountains, northwest China for this study. The dating of tree rings was conducted via dendrochronological methods, and mercury concentrations were measured using a direct mercury analyzer. Differences in average mercury concentrations among tree rings from individual trees (i.e., specificity bias) exist due to tree-specific factors, yet the underlying causes remain unclear to date. The regional average mercury concentration sequence was obtained using the dual-weighted mean approach, and the specificity bias is defined as the difference between the mean of the raw concentration sequences and the mean of the regional average concentration sequence. Calibrated mercury concentrations are calculated as the difference between raw mercury concentrations and the specificity bias. The raw mercury concentration sequence represents the true value, while the calibrated sequence better reflects regional mercury concentration variations. This dataset is mainly used for reconstructing historical mercury pollution and researching transboundary pollutant transport paths.
