资源简介:
Samples from the lower organic levels of a privy at the Chief Ouray Homesite, 5MN847,
near Montrose, Colorado, were examined for pollen, parasites, and macrofloral remains to
identify elements of the diet and parasites present. Privy deposits are believed to represent
use of the privy by Chief Ouray, his wife Chipeta, and Ute and Mexican tenants from 1876 to
the 1890s. Privy fill from the 2nd Los Pinos Indian Agency (50R139East) near Montrose,
Colorado, also was examined for pollen, parasites, and macrofloral remains. This privy is
believed to be associated with the mess house at the Indian Agency, which operated from 1875
to 1881. Pollen and macrofloral analysis of the privy fill will be used to provide information
concerning foods eaten and trash disposed of by the privy users. Parasite analysis will lend
insight into the health of the historic occupants and visitors to the agency.
