Attendance at theater shows in Italy 2019-2022, by segment

Attendance at theater events in Italy rose significantly in 2022 compared to the first two years of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, but remained below pre-pandemic levels. While admissions at theater shows totaled nearly 15 million in 2019, they declined to less than five million in 2020, then bounced back to more than 11 million in 2022. That year, attendance at opera shows was around 1.7 million, decreasing from roughly 2.5 million in 2019.
