UMRBPP: NIDS KUDX Velocity Azimuth Display (VAD) Data Set. Version 1.0

This data set contains the Nexrad Information Dissemination Service (NIDS) Velocity Azimuth Display (VAD) product. The VAD products are generated in either clear air or precipitation mode. It contains the current vertical wind profile and up to ten profiles from previous time periods. The profiles are in a time vs. height format. The range is up to 70,000 feet in height. It is updated once every volume scan (typically every 5-10 min). The wind speeds are in knots, the wind direction in degrees, and the height in feet above mean sea level. Data are available for most periods during the UMRBPP (5 April to 5 May 1999) from the Rapid City, SD (KUDX) radar site. These data are in the (KUDX) radar site. These data are in the original NIDS original NIDS format. These data were not quality controlled by the University Corporation for Atmospheric Research/Joint Office for Science Support (UCAR/JOSS). This data set is quite large both in terms of size (32 Mb) and the number of files (4500). Please take this into consideration when placing your data order.
