资源简介:
Wardell Armstrong LLP was commissioned by Veolia Environmental Services to undertake an archaeological evaluation at Ling Hall Quarry, Worcestershire. The investigations were required to assess the potential for archaeological remains ahead of the temporary use of land at Ling Hall Quarry for open-window composting of green waste and wood chipping, for which a planning application has been submitted to Warwickshire County Council. Previous archaeological works for the site have included previous evaluation trenching in 1989, archaeological watching briefs between 1991 and 1999, a further excavation in 1998 and a programme of trial pitting in close proximity to the land subject to the current application in 2017, these are discussed in the report. The 5no trial pits were excavated within the footprint of the proposed works the target depth being 0.7m below the bottom of proposed concrete slab level, from a height of c.113.5m AOD or greater. The stratigraphic sequences in trial pits excavated produced no evidence of any deposits of archaeological or palaeoenvironmental interest and did not encounter the Dunsmore Gravels. The sequences observed at Ling Hall Quarry indicate that the proposed development at this site will have no impact on the Dunsmore Gravels.
