VPRS 12180 Collectors Cash Book [Ports and Harbours Branch]

The Public Works Department had wide-ranging responsibilities for all public works and buildings, including construction, maintenance and fitting out of these buildings. From 1900 to 1983, the Department had responsibility for all ports and harbours not administered by area specific Harbour Trusts (such as Melbourne and Geelong), until 1956, for metropolitan foreshores and for marina permits until 1987.The cash book in this series relates directly to the responsibility for ports and harbours at the Port of Warrnambool and records the receipt of compulsory fees from ships entering and using the facilities of that port. Details were entered under the headings of Date; Name; Particulars and Amount. Recorded were charges made on ships in the port for wharfage, tonnage, pilotage and discharges.
