Day-night differences in temperature and height are used as the basis for a system designed to achieve compatibility between data measured by various radiosonde instruments. The resultant compatibility adjustments in reported data are a prerequisite to the analysis of stratospheric constant-pressure charts above the 100-mb level, and for some instrument types they are significant even at tropospheric levels.
