Gateway to Research Proposals

This dataset contains 42 funded research proposals (including titles, funding council, and technical abstracts) sourced from the UK Research and Innovation (UKRI)'s Gateway to Research (GtR) portal. The proposals were randomly selected to represent a broad distribution across the UK's disciplinary landscape, spanning seven statutory research councils (including AHRC, BBSRC, MRC, ESRC, NERC, STFC, and EPRSC) and the National Centre for the Replacement, Refinement and Reduction of Animals in Research (NC3Rs). These abstracts formed the evaluation dataset for the paper, "Research Entity Extraction and Topic Detection from UKRI Grant Proposals," which is part of the UKRI-funded Metascience project, “Tracking Stars and Unicorns”. The project aims to identify early signals of emerging research areas to inform public investment.
