CEL = Cultural Ethnic and Linguistic groups. Definition of CELs and abbreviations adapted from Hanks and Tucker [31], [32]. Out of the 30,479 unique surnames collected in the reference list (see text under “Methods; Data” section) only 17,411 were present in the global names dataset (17 countries selected from WorldNames). This table lists the surname frequency distribution per CEL and the number of forename-surname pairs in which they are involved in the global names dataset used in this paper.
