In this project we detected V. cholerae strains, evaluated their genetic diversity and pathogenic potential along a 600km route across lake Tanganyika (one of the most affected cholera-area of the world) to investigate the role of the lake as a potential reservoir of V. cholerae of epidemiological significance . This approach was based on the use of the Continuous Plankton Recorder technology that was employed, for the first time, in an endemic Cholera region
