A sediment core (830 cm) was collected from the Haima cold seep area on the northwest slope of the South China Sea on April 2nd in 2015. The sampling location was around 600 m east of the ROV1 site at approximately 1380 m water depth. In this study, we used the sediments below the sulfate-methane transition zone (SMTZ) at 500-800 cm of the sediment core for archaeal isolation.
