Diatom-derived polyunsaturated aldehydes - influence on the composition of diatom-associated microbiomes

Diatom-derived polyunsaturated aldehydes could influence diatom chemical ecology. The effects of PUAs on the associated microbiomes of two Skeletonema marinoi strains (a PUA and a non-PUA producer) were investigated under varying nitrate conditions. In addition, some cultures were spiked with PUA at ecologically relevant concentrations (86nM octadienal and 290nM heptadienal) to determine any response.
