Anode materials combining conversion and alloying reactions are promising for Na-ion batteries (NIBs), due to their high capacities and reasonable cycling stability. However, their complex cycling mechanisms, involving multiple transitions between crystalline and amorphous phases, make them challenging to understand based on chemical structures even with the most advanced operando techniques [1]. The purpose of the proposed experiment is to understand the cycling mechanisms of two conversion/alloying materials for Na-ion batteries (Bi2MoO6 and Sb2S3) by combining operando PDF and XAS with the new and improved setup at BM31 (to be installed this summer).
