The Subject files consist of correspondence and reports concerning policy and administrative matters, and include files regarding the management and planning of TAFE courses, committee minutes, annual reports from Colleges, enrolment statistics, reviews of teaching establishment positions, allocations of expenditure, and building maintenance and acquisition.The file numbering system relates to the nine subject categories in the classification system. The first two digits in the file number relate to the year, the third digit relates to the subject category, designated with an alpha digit (listed below), and the last four numbers were the unique numbers for that file. File numbering begins at 1 for each subject category each year.The Subject files were divided into nine categories:1. Administration (alpha digit A) 2. Commercial Development (alpha digit D) 3. Course (alpha digit C) 4. Education (alpha digit E) 5. Finance (alpha digit F) 6. Human Resources (alpha digit H) 7.Personnel and Industrial Relations (alpha digit P) 8. Physical Resources (alpha digit R) 9. Student (alpha digit S) From 1984 to 1993 a keyword thesaurus was used to title files in conjunction with subject categories, and in late 1993 a new keyword thesaurus for TAFE was compiled and a new file classification system was implemented. The new system required that only two subject categories be used, Administration, and Personnel. Corporate Services files were assigned a unique prefix number - 701, from the TAFE Common Code System.
