Quality of Life During the Crisis, 1990

The survey forms part of a major project entitled 'Danskernes livskvalitet og trivsel under krise og opsving' (Quality of Life and Thriving During Crisis and Upswing), which consists of five surveys for which data were collected in May 1982 (DDA-1610, the material was collected in connection with the Danish Omnibus Survey, May 1982 (DDA-0558)); in April-May 1986 (DDA-1433, the data material was collected by AIM Research); in November 1988 (DDA-1611, data collected by AIM Research); in November 1990 (DDA-1612, data collected by the Danish Gallup Institute); and in April-May 1994 (DDA-1898, data collected by I & A Market Analysis). Furthermore, DDA-4650 contains the commonn questions from DDA-1610 and DDA-1433. # The overall purpose of the project is to examine, on the basis of a number of psychological 'crisis-variables', whether any national psychological developmental trends are found in Denmark as regards crisis-consciousness, experienced socio-economic life conditions, subjective quality of life, resource conscious life style, coping forms, and attitudes during the economic crisis in the period 1982-86-88-90, alternatively whether the trends for the period 1982-86 and for 1982-86-88 recur in the period 1982-86-88-90. # The psychological crisis-variables may be divided into the following five groups which each has a common psychological character: #1. Crisis-consciousness: Allocation of # responsibility for the crisis, internally and externally; # assessment of the development in the coming years (vision of # the future); as well as spirit of self-sacrifice in order to # remedy the crisis. #2. Living conditions during the crisis: # Experienced changes of living conditions in recent years as # regards financial conditions, housing conditions, working # conditions, consumption possibilities and 'other living # conditions'. #3. Psychic or subjective quality of life: # Societal and personal satisfaction, psychic stress, and the # feeling of being in a crisis. #4. Life style and conduct during the crisis (coping forms): # Resource-conscious life style and ability for active and # adaptive resignation. #5. Attitudes to/perceptions of the causes of the crisis: # Attitude to the role of the State in coping with the crisis as # well as attitudes to work and to unemployment. In addition, # a new variable is included from the 1990 survey: Attitude to # the responsibility of the individual. #The method used and the questions asked were identical in all the part-surveys, however, in 1990 supplemented with questions concerning causes of the crisis, overtime work, sidelines, public means of control, alcohol consumption, and conditions concerning sociology og law and political science
