资源简介:
This series is an artificial one bringing together correspondence and Court papers referred to the Surveyor-General to enable the surveying of proposed roads and the carrying out of the statutory responsibilities with respect to them. Contents of the series includes formal applications to the Court of Quarter (General) Sessions, applications to the Public Lands Department for surveys which may include plans and other correspondence. Some of this correspondence had originally been forwarded to the Commissioner of Roads and Bridges or to the Central Roads Board. Another item contains correspondence regarding the Gippsland Lakes. The Roads Act 1854 (Legislative Council 17 Vict No 29) provided in Section 7 that a Crown grantee who desired to have a road from a public highway to their property across others land in a district without a District Road Board might apply to the Court of General Sessions. Notice of such an application was to be given in writing to all affected proprietors and to the Surveyor-General. Once the Court finally approved the road, the Surveyor-General was to have the intended road traced and marked out as nearly as practicable within two months of the Court's determination.
