Absolute and relative abundances of benthic marine Ostracoda collected from the lower Pliocene succession of the Bonares-Casa del Pino (Spain).

This dataset presents the ostracod countings from ten samples collected from the Arenas de Huelva Formation (Spain). They are presented as the absolute and relative abundances of ostracods, calculated using both the Minimum Number of Individuals (MNI) and the Total Number of Valves (TNV), with juvenile specimens indicated where applicable. The dataset was used to calculate the Specific Population Stage (SPS) index, as defined by Aiello et al. (2024a), that is calculated according to the following formula: SPS = [(IA-8×1)+(IA-7×2)+(IA-6×3)+(IA-5×4)+(IA-4×5)+(IA-3×6)+(IA-2×7)+(IA-1×8)+(IA×9)] / [1 + (IA-8+IA-7+IA-6+IA-5+IA-4+IA-3+IA-2+IA-1+IA)] where IA represents the number of adult instars of the considered species, IA-1 the number of penultimate instars, and so forth. The sediment samples were collected from the 6 m-thick lower Pliocene succession of the Bonares-Casa del Pino (CP) Section for ostracod assemblage analysis. The dataset could be used to compare the SPS index of other benthic marine ostracod assemblages.
