Slovak Alternating Reading Task in L2 English

The dataset comprises audio recordings and supplement files from <strong>Slovak-native speakers </strong>(SK0102 to SK1920) who participated in an <strong>Alternating Reading Task (ART) </strong>in English (De Jong 2022).<br> <br> The ART experiment involved dyads taking turns reading aloud a neutral English text consisting of 80 sentences, with turn boundaries set within the sentences. To enable comparisons, a <strong>solo condition </strong>was included where participants read the sentences individually, and an <strong>imitation condition </strong>required participants to imitate each other during sentence reading. During the ART experiment, or the <strong>interactive condition,</strong> participants performed the reading task in four rounds. To maintain participants' attention, certain words were replaced with <em>synonyms</em>. The dataset includes the following files: <br> - <em>ART_SK_wav.zip</em>: Contains the audio recordings in WAV (44.1 KHz, 16-bit, mono channel) format.<br> - <em>ART_SK_meta.csv</em>: Provides participant demographics, including <em>Subject_ID</em>, <em>Age</em>, <em>Sex</em>, <em>Dyad</em>, <em>Speaker_ID</em>, <em>Proficiency </em>(Reading English), and <em>Language</em>.<br> - <em>ART_texts.csv</em>: Contains the phrases used in the solo condition, with columns for <em>ID</em>, <em>phrase</em>, and the number of words (<em>n_words</em>) in each phrase.<br> - <em>ART_interactive_texts.xlsx:</em> Consists of multiple sheets (<strong>main0, main25, main50, main75</strong>) representing the percentage of the total sentence where one word is replaced with its synonym. Each sheet includes columns for <em>main_ID</em>, <em>main1_phrase</em>, and <em>main2_phrase</em>.<br> <br> This dataset extends the initial version of the Alternating Reading Task in L2 English.
