Supplementary Tables for "Effect of diets differing in ratio of alfalfa hay and corn silage on lactational performance and rumination of Holstein dairy cows"

Supplementary Tables (1 and 2) for data from Tables 2 and 4 from the main manuscript "Effect of diets differing in ratio of alfalfa hay and corn silage on lactational performance and rumination of Holstein dairy cows" that show the values by individual enrollment for calculated chemical composition of diets and particle size distribution of forage ingredients, TMR, and orts. Justification for use from the associated manuscript- "This data was split out by enrollment because during the first 7 to 11 d of the first enrollment of cows, 2 cows (1 each for 70ALF and 90ALF diets) were diagnosed with abomasal displacement which was perhaps attributed to small dietary particle size (i.e., reduced fraction of particles retained on 4-mm sieve and pan) of the diets containing greater alfalfa hay. To reduce potential risk of future abomasal displacements, dietary composition was modified from the original formulation to increase pef by introducing 1.5% of diet DM of chopped wheat straw to replace equal parts alfalfa hay and corn silage. During enrollment 2, 50% of alfalfa hay was chopped as in enrollment one, and the remaining 50% was added to the paddle mixer unchopped allowing the TMR mixing procedure to reduce the length of the unchopped hay."
