The following file contains the travel times in the TomoDD (Zhang and Thurber, 2003) format used in the study “Fault interaction during large earthquakes as revealed by the L’Aquila 2009 sequence”. In this study, we apply a multidisciplinary approach, combining structural geology (Vezzani et al., 2010; Buttinelli et al., 2021) and seismic tomography (seismic data from Valoroso et al., 2013 catalog), on the L’Aquila 2009 seismic sequence to investigate this aspect of the Central Apennines. The high-resolution Vp and Vp/Vs velocity models show geological features that are in agreement with geological evidence on the surface and the complex normal fault system of the shallow crust. The geometric orientation between the deep and surface portions of normal faults concerning the current stress field allows the simultaneous activation of the normal faults involved in the Central Apennines sequences.For this reason, faults genetically defined as a separate structure behave as a single structure in this circumstance. This new evidence may have consequences for seismic hazard evaluation.
