NRS-19809 | Technical and Further Education [TAFE] Gazettes

This series consists of Technical and Further Education Gazettes published from 1911 by the Further Education Commission [TAFE NSW] and its predecessor agencies.The nature and purpose of the Gazette has changed over time. The early Gazettes, those dating from first Gazette published in 1911 to that published in 1925, were aimed at both TAFE students and staff. While the later Gazettes, those dating from 1986 onwards are aimed only at TAFE staff.From 1911-1925 the Technical Gazette of New South Wales was published on an annual basis. During this period the Gazette contained articles on trades relevant to and courses offered by the Technical Colleges and Trade schools. The Gazette published detailed articles from the various departments of the colleges including the Science department, Engineering, Printing and the Allied Arts, Architecture and Building Trades, the Pastoral and Agricultural department and Women's Industries.The Gazette provided a forum to highlight the skills and trades of students and teachers and included commentaries on trips taken by students and staff, work undertaken by students and staff, exhibitions by students and developments in particular industries. The articles are illustrated by photographs, drawings, diagrams and images of students work. Staff appointments and lists of passes and annual examinations were also published in the Gazette. The early Gazettes were published in house by the Sydney Technical College using the skills and facilities of the College.The later Gazettes, those dating from 1986, contain notices aimed at staff of NSW TAFE. During this period the Gazette contains four main sections:Personnel notices, detailing appointments, promotions, retirements and dismissals of officers within TAFE.General Notices, notifying staff of amendments to parliamentary acts and regulations related to TAFE and notifications regarding policy guidelines and changes.New, Revised and Withdrawn Courses are listed andEmployment vacancies within TAFE are given.The look and layout of the Gazette changes over the period from 1986 however the basic content of the Gazette remains the same.The Gazettes in the series are arranged in chronological order. The early Gazettes (1911-25) are bound volumes while the later Gazettes are in booklet form. In some cases the later booklet format Gazettes have been collated by year and bound into a volume.
