Metal resistance in Acinetobacter baumannii

Ability to redirect limiting cellular resources accurately is key to bacteria for surviving in harsh environments that they encounter during their lifetime. Here, we characterise the highly pleiotropic nature of metal resistance in A. baumannii, allowing it to mount a response to a plethora of stresses and to infect hosts, via coordinating key metabolic pathways associated with the respiration, energy production, protein biosynthesisOur genomic and phenotypic data collectively provides the detailed insight into the role of metal resistance genes in stress protection and virulence in A. baumannii and layout a roadmap for similar findings in other clinically important pathogens.
