Census Tract-Level Data, 1950: San Diego, CA

San Diego County was partially tracted by the Census Bureau in 1950. This data collection contains 1950 Census Tract subject counts (variables) for San Diego City and adjacent areas. The 1950 census tract file data file was originally created by keypunching most of the subject counts from tables 1-3 in the Census Bureau printed publication, "Census of population: 1950, Vol.III, Census Tract Statistics, Chapter 48" [San Diego, Calif.]. The work was done under the direction of Dr. Donald Bogue, whose wife, Elizabeth Mullen Bogue, completed much of the data work. Subsequently, the punchcards were converted to data files and transferred to the National Archive and Records Administration (NARA). ICPSR received copies of these files from NARA and converted the binary block-length records to ASCII format. This San Diego, California 1950 census tract data file was reformatted and modified by the Social Science Data Collection (SSDC) staff of the University of California, San Diego.
