The Mediterranean ecosystem is unique and is occupied by indigenous plants, able to sustain and thrive in such ecosystem. In this study we explore the phyllosphere community of busses, brushwood and grass plants that are renowned typical aromatic plants of Mediterranean ecosystem. More specifically we collected leaves from Arbutus unedo, Calamintha nepeta, Cistus incanus, Lavandula stoechas, Melissa officinalis, Myrtus communis, Phillyrea latifolia, Pistacia lentiscus, and Quercus coccifera and from two sampling seasons, summer and winter. The microbial community was studied via quantitative and qualitative molecular method. The quantity of the main microbial groups such as Crenarchaeal, Fungi, Bacteria and the airborne fungi of Alternaria and Cladosporium genera, was measure via qPCR, whereas the microbial structure of phyllosphere was studied with Illumina HiSeq analysis.
