Dermo disease is a typical infectious disease affected by causative agent Perkinsus marina, which causes extensive mortality in the eastern oyster Crassostrea virginica. Fortunately, its sister specie, the Pacific oyster Crassostrea gigas, is remarkably resistant to this pathogen. However, the molecular mechanism underlying this difference is not yet well understood. We generate comparative transcriptomics to characterize gene transcription of P. marina infected oysters during two infection stages, and between the two sister species.
