We used mark-recapture across three adjacent trapping grids to identify movement of deer mice across wide recreational trails as compared to across a similar sized control spacing between trap grids in the adjacent woods. We examined three separate trails in the Ithaca, New York area: a gravel emergency access road, a dirt cross-country running trail, and a woodchip recreational path. Each trail was trapped for multiple seasons including both summer and fall sessions (although each trail was trapped in separate years). Mark-recapture allows identification of animal movements among the adjacent trap grids.
