How Civic Opportunity Turns Public Service Motivation into Volunteering in Post-Communist Europe?

This repository contains the data and code needed to reproduce the results reported in the article "How Civic Opportunity Turns Public Service Motivation into Volunteering in Post-Communist Europe." The study combines an original survey of 275 non-traditional public administration students in Romania (Study 1) with comparative European evidence from Eurostat, the Joint EVS/WVS 2017-2022 dataset, and the EVS Trend File 1981-2017 (Study 2). It examines how public service motivation relates to volunteering behavior, intention, and attitudes, and how civic opportunity structures condition the conversion of motivation into action. The package includes: the anonymized Study 1 survey data; a reproduction script for the Study 1 public service motivation scale and regression models; reproduction scripts and a variable map for the Study 2 comparative analyses; and an editable workbook containing the source data and charts for all figures and tables. The third-party datasets used in Study 2 (Eurostat ilc_scp19, GESIS ZA7505, and GESIS ZA7503) are publicly available from their original providers but are not redistributed here; the README explains where to obtain them.
